Per-particle bands
Each star or dust mote owns a frequency band; its brightness, size and twinkle follow that band, with kicks breathing the whole field and hats sparkling the outer stars.
Diffraction spikes and glow
Galaxy draws stars as procedural glow sprites with four-point diffraction spikes on the bright ones — a space-telescope look — and bloom finishes them.
