A music visualizer for the classroom
One browser tab, no logins, nothing to install and no student data collected. It runs on school Chromebooks, iPads, Macs and Windows laptops, and every student can open the same link at the same time.
Who this is for
- Music teachers without a software budget
- Science teachers demonstrating sound
- School AV, assemblies and after-school clubs
Nothing to provision
There is no account, no licence and no installer. The page is a static site, and audio is decoded and analysed in the browser, so no student recording ever leaves the device. It works in Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on Chromebooks, iPads, Macs and Windows laptops.
Three lessons it does well
Press K to play the keyboard instrument and show pitch, octaves and timbre. Press M for the microphone and show loudness, rhythm and how a room sounds. Load a piece of music and show structure — the visual changes on real section boundaries, which makes verse, build and drop something a class can see coming.
Whole-class friendly
Press H for a clean projector image with no interface on it. Reduced motion softens beat shake and zoom, and Flash guard limits how deep and how often the frame can flash — worth switching on before an assembly, because nobody in the room chose to be at a light show.
How to do it
- Share the link, or open it once on the class display
- Press K for the keyboard instrument, M for the microphone, or load an audio file
- Press H to hide the controls, then go fullscreen for the projector
- Turn on Reduced motion and Flash guard in Tune → Studio before a large group
